Post-Repair Inspections

Independent engineering inspections to review vehicle condition following accident or structural repairs.

Overview

A post-repair inspection is carried out after a vehicle has undergone accident or structural repairs, to assess the quality and completeness of the work from an engineering perspective. The purpose is to confirm that repairs have been carried out to an acceptable standard and that no obvious safety-critical issues remain.

These inspections are commonly requested following insurance repairs, significant body or structural work, or where a vehicle requires independent confirmation of condition before returning to service or re-insurance.

Post-Repair Inspections typically include:

  • Inspection of repaired areas following accident damage
  • Review of structural repairs, panel replacement, and alignment
  • Assessment of repair workmanship and materials used
  • Examination of safety-related components affected by the repair
  • Welding inspection where applicable
  • Photographic documentation of repaired areas

The inspection focuses on observable repair quality and vehicle condition at the time of inspection.

Process & deliverables

  1. Instruction and Repair Review - The inspection is arranged following instruction from an insurer, vehicle owner, or fleet operator. Details of the repairs carried out are reviewed where available.
  2. Vehicle Inspection - The vehicle is inspected at a repair facility or other suitable location. The inspection concentrates on repaired areas and any components affected by the original damage.
  3. Engineering Assessment - Repairs are assessed using an engineering-led approach, considering vehicle construction, safety systems, and recognised repair standards.
  4. Post-Repair Inspection Report - A written report is produced, typically including:
    • Vehicle and inspection details
    • Description of repairs inspected
    • Photographic evidence
    • Engineering observations and findings
The report can be used to support insurance processes, re-insurance, or internal fleet records.

Example scenarios

Insurance Repair Review

A vehicle has been repaired following an insurance claim. A post-repair inspection is requested to independently review the completed work and document the condition of repaired areas.

Fleet Vehicle Return to Service

A fleet vehicle undergoes structural or accident repairs. An independent inspection is carried out before the vehicle is returned to operational use, providing documented confirmation of repair condition.
